Kevin Porter Jr. is day-to-day with a right knee issue after appearing on the Sept. 6 injury report with no previous status attached. His expected return is Oct. 1, four days ahead of Milwaukee's opener against the Timberwolves.

What happened

Porter was listed as day-to-day on the injury report issued Sunday, Sept. 6 at 4:32 AM ET, with a right knee and leg issue. He had no previous status on file, making this his first appearance on the report. Separately, Michael Scotto of USA Today reported that Porter exercised his $5.39 million player option for the 2026-27 season on Thursday. The report lists his expected return as Oct. 1.

What it means for the Bucks

Milwaukee opens its 2026-27 schedule on the road against the Timberwolves on Monday, Oct. 5 at 8:00 PM ET. Porter averaged 17.4 points, 5.2 rebounds and 7.4 assists in 33.2 minutes across 38 games last season. If he is not ready by then, Ryan Rollins, who logged 32.1 minutes and 17.3 points in games without Porter, is the top option to absorb his workload, with AJ Green and Giannis Antetokounmpo also seeing extended run. The 2026-27 season has not started, so the Bucks carry no record with or without him yet.

What to watch

The Bucks' next injury report will show whether Porter's day-to-day status changes as his Oct. 1 expected return date approaches. That date falls four days before the season opener against the Timberwolves on Oct. 5, so a normal recovery would have him available for the start of the regular season.
