Cade Cunningham is day-to-day after sitting out Saturday's preseason loss to Washington with a rest-related issue. The Pistons list his expected return for Wednesday's game at Minnesota.
What happened
The Pistons' injury report listed Cade Cunningham as day-to-day as of Saturday, Oct. 10 at 11:30 p.m. ET, with the issue logged as rest, under the other category. Cunningham did not play in Saturday's 114-108 preseason loss to the Wizards. His previous status is not announced. The report lists an expected return date of Oct. 14. What it means for the Pistons
Detroit's next game is at the Timberwolves on Wednesday, Oct. 14 at 8 p.m. ET, the date the report lists for Cunningham's expected return. Last season he averaged 33.9 minutes, 23.9 points, 5.5 rebounds and 9.9 assists across 64 games. Without him on the floor, Jalen Duren has logged 28.2 minutes and 19.5 points, Tobias Harris 27.7 minutes and 13.3 points, and Duncan Robinson 27.4 minutes and 12.2 points. Ausar Thompson, Isaiah Stewart, Kevin Huerter, Daniss Jenkins and Ronald Holland II have also seen expanded roles. The Pistons are 0-0, since the 2026-27 season has not started, so there is no record with or without him yet.
What to watch
The next injury report will show whether Cunningham's status changes ahead of Wednesday's game at Minnesota. His expected return is listed as Oct. 14, which lines up with that game. No other return timeline is announced. Detroit has preseason games remaining before the 2026-27 regular season begins, and his next appearance will be the first indicator of whether the rest issue is fully resolved.
