Jalen Green is day-to-day with a rest issue and will not play when the Suns open the season at San Antonio on Wednesday night. Phoenix will lean more heavily on Devin Booker and the rest of its backcourt rotation without him.

What happened

Green did not participate in Wednesday's full morning shootaround. The Suns listed him as day-to-day under "Rest · Other" on the injury report filed Wednesday at 12:50 PM ET, with no prior status attached before this entry. Duane Rankin of The Arizona Republic reports that Green isn't expected to face San Antonio. The report carries an expected return date of Oct. 14, the same day as the report itself, and Phoenix has not announced any further timeline for when he will next play.

What it means for the Suns

Phoenix opens its season at San Antonio on Wednesday at 8:00 PM ET. Last season Green averaged 17.8 points, 3.6 rebounds and 2.8 assists in 25.9 minutes across 32 games. Without him, the rotation has shifted toward Devin Booker, who played 33.5 minutes and scored 26.1 points per game in those outings, Dillon Brooks (30.4 minutes, 20.2 points), Grayson Allen (28.8 minutes, 16.5 points) and Collin Gillespie (28.5 minutes, 12.7 points). Royce O'Neale, Mark Williams, Jordan Goodwin and Oso Ighodaro also drew extended minutes. The Suns are 0-0, with the 2026-27 season not yet underway.

What to watch

No return date beyond day-to-day has been announced for Green, so the next injury report is the one to watch ahead of tipoff at San Antonio. Phoenix's report also lists Collin Gillespie, Dillon Brooks and Devin Booker as day-to-day with rest listings, Miles Bridges as day-to-day with a left ankle issue, and Mark Williams as out with a left shoulder issue, all of which bear on how the rotation shapes up Wednesday.

Is Jalen Green playing at San Antonio tonight?

No. Green is day-to-day with a rest listing and isn't expected to face the Spurs, according to Duane Rankin of The Arizona Republic.

When will Jalen Green be back?

The Suns have not announced a firm return date. He is listed as day-to-day.
