Dean Wade was upgraded from out to day-to-day on Tuesday night's injury report with an ankle issue. The change leaves him in play for Thursday's game against the Cavaliers, with a target return date of Oct. 22.
What happened
The 76ers listed Dean Wade as day-to-day on the injury report issued Tuesday at 10:46 PM ET. The injury is listed as an ankle issue. Wade had been downgraded to out earlier Tuesday, and the report's comment said he was out for Tuesday's game against the Knicks. He first appeared on the report as day-to-day on Friday, Oct. 16, with the same ankle issue. The report lists an expected return of Oct. 22. Dominick Barlow, Ariel Hukporti and Tacko Fall remain out for Philadelphia.
What it means for the 76ers
Philadelphia is 1-0 and hosts the Cavaliers on Thursday, Oct. 22 at 7:00 PM ET on ESPN. The 76ers have not played a game with Wade yet this season and are 1-0 without him. Last season Wade averaged 5.8 points, 4.2 rebounds and 1.5 assists in 22.3 minutes over 59 games, and he gives the frontcourt a forward-center option. In the opener without him, minutes were spread widely. VJ Edgecombe led the team at 15.6 minutes, with Tyrese Maxey, LeBron James, Jaylen Brown and Joel Embiid all between 14 and 15 minutes. Adem Bona played 4.5 minutes off the bench.
What to watch
The next injury report before Thursday's game will show whether Wade moves from day-to-day to available or back to out. The report lists Oct. 22 as his expected return, which is the Cavaliers game. The frontcourt remains thin with Barlow, Hukporti and Fall all out, so Wade's status matters for the rotation against Cleveland. A further update on his ankle has not been announced.
