Rumor Check: Barlow's Timeline, Fall's Deal and a Cap Sheet With No Slack

Four reports on the Sixers this week. Two are settled, one is a calendar, and none of them is a trade.

This week's reports are about the back of the roster, and none of them touches Maxey, Brown, Embiid or LeBron James. With a $206.6M payroll above the $200.4M luxury tax line, any bigger move gets expensive in a hurry.

How long will Dominick Barlow actually be gone?

Hoops Rumors reported on October 19 that Barlow would miss at least two weeks because of a back injury. The report carries a confidence score of 44 and is still open. The team lists him as Out (back, torso) with an estimated return of November 2, which matches the report. Treat it as credible. He played 71 games last season at 23.8 minutes a night, so his absence does cost the frontcourt.

Is Tacko Fall really on a two-way deal, and can he play against Cleveland?

Shams Charania reported on October 17 that the Sixers converted Fall to a two-way contract. That report has a confidence score of 54 and is still open, but it comes from the most reliable name on this list. His health is a separate question. On October 21 the team upgraded him from Out on his hip and left-side issue, with an estimated return of October 22. The contract doesn't settle the hip.

Is anyone reporting a real trade?

No. The Minor Transactions item from October 16 (confidence 45) is confirmed, and it covered roster churn. Taye Fields and Cris Carroll joined, then Duke Miles and Saint Thomas left. By October 18, Fields and Carroll were gone too, along with Dillon Jones and Jameer Nelson Jr. The October 11 piece on seven teams with two-way openings is also confirmed, but it is a league-wide list that explains Fall's deal at most. It isn't Sixers news.

Does the cap sheet even allow a big move?

Barely. The payroll is $206.6M, above the $200.4M tax line. Embiid at $58.1M, Brown at $57.1M and Maxey at $40.8M aren't going anywhere. After them come VJ Edgecombe at $11.7M and Dean Wade at $9.0M. The picks are thin: own firsts in 2027 and 2030, a protected 2028 first, a 2029 swap, and seconds already committed to Brooklyn and New York. Anyone pitching a blockbuster should explain whose salary goes out.

The verdictCharania's report on Fall and the Barlow timeline are real, and the rest is housekeeping. A tax-paying roster with this pick sheet isn't set up for a splashy deal, so expect the next real news to come from the injury report.
When is Dominick Barlow expected back for the Sixers?

The team lists his estimated return as November 2, which matches the October 19 Hoops Rumors report that he would miss at least two weeks with a back injury.

Are the 76ers over the luxury tax in 2026-27?

Yes. Their payroll is $206.6M, above the $200.4M luxury tax line.
