Hukporti Out a Full Year as Sixers' Fab Four Debuts at Boston
Ariel Hukporti is officially out for a year with an Achilles injury as Philadelphia takes Joel Embiid, Tyrese Maxey, Jaylen Brown and LeBron James to Boston together for the first time. Marcus calls the split preseason record meaningless with the stars barely sharing the floor, while Jaylen Brown faces the Celtics for the first time since the trade that brought him to Philadelphia.

The host & The analyst0:04The host: Tonight's injury report just dropped, and it's basically the same four names we had Monday: Barlow, Simons, Fall, Bona, all day-to-day, all pointed at the 16th.
0:15The analyst: Confidence on that hasn't moved either. Still day-to-day, still that same return window. The real swing is Hukporti, officially out with the Achilles, and that one isn't coming back this calendar year.
0:29The host: Walk through Hukporti one more time for people who missed it.
0:33The analyst: Day-to-day with a calf, then an ankle, then a lower leg, before landing on the Achilles on October 6th. Officially out now, with a return estimate of October 2027.
0:43The host: A full year.
0:44The analyst: A full year. That's a center spot Nurse has to fill some other way, starting tonight.
0:49The host: Which means tonight at Boston we finally get the look we've been waiting for. Embiid, Maxey, Brown, LeBron, all four, together, against an actual contender.
1:00The analyst: Away from home. That part matters.
1:02The host: Two games in the last seven days for us. One for them.
1:06The analyst: That's my number tonight. Two and one. Two 76ers road games in five days, one day of rest between them, against a Celtics team that's played once all week and sits four days before its next one.
1:16The host: So legs.
1:17The analyst: Legs, specifically a 41-year-old pair of them. LeBron's second straight true road game on one day of rest isn't nothing.
1:24The host: He looked fine Thursday.
1:26The analyst: He looked fine in a loss. That's the problem with judging anything off 108-114.
1:31The host: Alright, here's where I push you. What is this team right now? Real answer.
1:37The analyst: Real answer: unknown, and I mean that as a judgment, not a dodge. The 120-97 win over the Knicks came with Embiid, Maxey and LeBron sitting. Caleb Love scored 15 that night.
1:48The host: Right, that's what we said two days ago.
1:51The analyst: Then Thursday all three play, and it's Brown 18, Maxey 14, in a loss at Brooklyn. One sample with the stars resting, one with them playing limited minutes. Neither tells you what this team is.
2:02The host: So what would move you off unknown?
2:05The analyst: Embiid logging real minutes two nights after a heavy stretch, no maintenance day tacked on after. That's the tell. Not tonight's score.
2:13The host: I'll take the narrower version. Tonight doesn't decide anything, but how long Nurse trusts Embiid, Maxey, Brown and LeBron together on the floor does.
2:22The analyst: That I'll sign off on.
2:24The host: Boston's not exactly showing their hand either.
2:27The analyst: They're showing nobody's hand. George, Tatum, White, Hauser, Queta, all day-to-day, all logged as rest. Harper's got a shoulder, Robinson's undisclosed.
2:37The host: So who's actually playing for them?
2:39The analyst: Whoever's left. Pritchard's group, mostly. Last year this team won 56 games with a net rating of 8.3, the best defensive rating in the league at 111.7. Tonight's version is not that team.
2:51The host: Tatum barely played last season.
2:54The analyst: Barely a third of it, and still averaged 21.8 points and 10.0 rebounds in what he did play. Whatever Boston we see tonight, it's not predictive of anything either.
3:05The host: Brown playing against Boston for the first time since the trade — that's not nothing either.
3:10The analyst: He spent his whole career on that side of this exact rivalry before it sent him here for George and four picks. Personal one, preseason or not.
3:18The host: Does he play big minutes knowing that, or does Nurse treat it like any other preseason game?
3:24The analyst: Nurse treats every preseason minute the same. The emotion's real, the minutes probably aren't.
3:29The host: So the matchup that actually decides this is bench against bench.
3:32The analyst: Queta's the one bench piece who actually produces — 10.2 points, 8.4 rebounds a game last year in 25.3 minutes. If he's capped at rest minutes tonight, that's real spacing for whoever starts in the middle for us.
3:46The host: Embiid against whoever's left in the middle for them, that's a mismatch worth watching even in preseason. Nothing fresh from the insiders today either, nothing broke overnight.
3:57The analyst: Nothing worth repeating. Last real one was Spurs business, not ours.
4:01The host: Thursday at Brooklyn, three lines: 108-114, Brown's 18 led everybody, Maxey added 14, and it was the first real test of the four stars sharing the floor.
4:13The analyst: Failed test, technically. Small sample, like we said.
4:17The host: Ball's up in two hours, on NBA TV, on the road at Boston. Same building again on the 16th, six days from tonight, then the one that counts, the 20th at the Garden against the Knicks.
4:28The analyst: My verdict stands. This team is still unknown, and it stays that way until the stars play real back-to-back minutes without a crash.
4:36The host: I'll take the narrower read. Watch how long LeBron stays on the floor on the second night of this trip. That's the real headline, not the score. We'll have it up on the 76ers page on Hoops Nightly right after the horn.
