Rumor Check: What Five Reports Actually Add Up To

Milwaukee's rumor sheet from the past three weeks holds five items, but only Joe Vardon's report on an NBA inquiry into the Trent Jr. deal comes from a named insider with real substance. Everything else is either confirmed by today's camp roster or too thin to weigh against a payroll that leaves little room before the tax.

The lowest-confidence report of the stretch, hoopsrumors' 'NBA 2026 Offseason Check-In: Milwaukee Bucks,' carried a confidence score of 24 and never moved past its headline. Three weeks later, no follow-up has filled in what the check-in actually said about the roster Taylor Jenkins inherited. It sits open, unresolved, and largely forgotten.

Sept. 17

A report titled 'Bucks Sign Jake Stephens' carried a confidence score of 36 at the time, modest for a transaction rumor. Today's training camp roster, detailed by Jim Owczarski, confirms it outright: Stephens is in camp on a deal alongside John Butler Jr. Nothing here still needs checking.

Sept. 22

Doc Rivers joined NBC as an analyst and said he is done coaching, a report that scored a confidence of 41. It is not a transaction rumor, but it closes the door on any scenario where Rivers returns to an NBA bench this season, Milwaukee's or anyone else's.

Sept. 23

Joe Vardon's report that the NBA is probing Milwaukee's trade for Gary Trent Jr. carries the highest confidence score of the group, 48, and it is the only item from a named insider covering the club directly. It remains open. No findings, scope, or timeline have surfaced since.

Sept. 27
