Rumor Check: The Trent Jr. Inquiry Outweighs a Quiet September

Five reports touched Milwaukee this month, but only the league's review of the Trent Jr. trade carries real weight.

By the Bucks Nightly Desk · Thursday, October 1

Of five reports tied to Milwaukee since Sept. 8, only Joe Vardon's account of a league review into the Trent Jr. trade carries real weight, and even that confirms a review exists without saying what it has found. The other four range from a roster move already reflected on the roster to a roundup that names five teams without saying which, if any, touches the Bucks.

Sept. 8

A season check-in on Milwaukee carries the file's lowest confidence score, 24, and is still marked open. It reads as a general survey of the post-Antetokounmpo rebuild rather than a specific transaction, and three weeks of silence have not raised its standing.

Sept. 17

A report crediting the Bucks with adding center Jake Stephens carries a confidence score of 36, also still open. The roster now lists Stephens at center, number 88, so the outcome matches what was reported — the formal status simply has not caught up.

Sept. 22

A report said Doc Rivers' coaching career has ended and that he has taken a broadcast role at NBC. It carries a confidence score of 41, still open. It touches Milwaukee only through its history with Rivers, who resigned as head coach once last season ended, not through any move involving the current roster.

Sept. 23

Joe Vardon reported the NBA is reviewing Milwaukee's trade for Trent Jr., the file's highest confidence mark at 48, still open. The report confirms a review exists; it does not say what the league found, how long the review will run, or what penalty, if any, is on the table. The trade already closed, and with $193.8M committed against a $200.4M tax line, Milwaukee has little room left regardless — the only open question is what the league does about a deal already on the books.

Sept. 27

A roundup titled 'Minor Roster Moves' grouped Milwaukee with the Wizards, Timberwolves, Nets, Clippers and Pistons, carrying no confidence score at all. The headline names five teams without saying which move touches the Bucks, which makes it the thinnest entry on the board this month.

Next Milwaukee opens its preseason Oct. 5 against the Timberwolves, the first games since the Trent Jr. trade closed; none of the five reports above are expected to resolve before then.
What is the NBA looking into regarding Milwaukee's trade for Trent Jr.?

Joe Vardon reported Sept. 23 that the league is reviewing the trade, with a confidence score of 48; no detail on findings or a timeline has been reported.

Did the Bucks already add Jake Stephens to the roster?

Yes — he is listed at center, number 88, though the Sept. 17 report crediting the addition is still marked open, with a confidence score of 36.
