Boston plays Charlotte and Philadelphia before October 20 in Detroit.

The Hornets visit Wednesday, then the Celtics head to Philadelphia on Friday for an NBA TV game. The regular season starts October 20 at Detroit on NBC/Peacock, and the first home date of the real schedule is October 23 against the Knicks on Prime Video.

Three day-to-day tags share Wednesday as a return date.

Luka Garza (nose), Devin Carter (illness) and Ron Harper Jr. (right shoulder) are all day-to-day, each pointing to October 14 — the same day Charlotte visits — as the day they're expected back. None of the three tags carries more detail than the body part or cause listed.

The payroll sits above the tax line with room before the next threshold.

Boston carries $203.9 million in salary, $3.5 million over the $200.4 million luxury tax line and comfortably under the $209.0 million first apron. Jayson Tatum's $58.5 million and Paul George's $54.1 million are the two biggest numbers on the books, with Derrick White at $30.3 million.

One two-way contract still carries no name.

The slot has sat open since September 12, through Max Shulga's departure and the additions of Hayden Gray and Gabe McGlothan, and through both results already on the board. Dillon Mitchell, first named in an October 3 roundup alongside George, Tatum, Pritchard and Mazzulla, remains attached to the same lack of specifics.

When do the Celtics play next?

Wednesday, October 14, at home against Charlotte; the regular season begins October 20 at Detroit.

Who is banged up on the Celtics roster right now?

Luka Garza (nose), Devin Carter (illness) and Ron Harper Jr. (right shoulder) are all day-to-day, each expected back October 14.
