Around the Beat: Carter's Make-Good Deal, Four Cuts, Brown's Return

What the Boston press is chasing on Carter, the camp cuts, Pritchard's math, and Brown's first game back.

By the Celtics Nightly Desk · Sunday, October 18

Hoops Rumors and Boston.com both have Devin Carter heading to a two-way deal, which lines up with his day-to-day illness tag and nothing else. The bigger unresolved threads, Pritchard's actual numbers and what Jaylen Brown said about Tatum, remain outlet reporting Boston's own record does not yet confirm or deny.

Carter's two-way move tracks with his own injury listing, not beyond it.

Hoops Rumors and Boston.com (Kaley Brown) both reported Boston is converting Devin Carter to a two-way contract, and CelticsBlog's Sam LaFrance framed it as a final call after one appearance. Boston's own record shows Carter flagged day-to-day for illness on October 17 and cleared the same day, with an estimated return of October 20. The two-way report fits a player whose camp has been short and interrupted; it does not explain why, since no outlet named a corresponding roster cut.

2

The four camp cuts remain unnamed in both the report and the record.

Luke Adams at Hoops Rumors reported Boston waived four camp invitees on October 17. Boston's own transaction log confirms four departures that date: Gabe McGlothan, Tucker DeVries, Milos Uzan and Hayden Gray, all logged as leaving the roster with no destination. The outlet and the roster agree on the number; only the roster supplies the names.

3

Pritchard's extension is confirmed, its value is not.

Celtics.com's own release covers the two-year extension agreed October 13, matching the earlier Shams Charania report. Neither source has put a dollar figure on it, and Boston's payroll, already $203.9 million against a $200.4 million luxury-tax threshold, will need one before anyone can say what kind of team this front office is building toward.

4

Brown's first game back produced reporting Boston's facts don't settle.

Souichi Terada at MassLive covered Jaylen Brown facing Boston for the first time since the trade that sent him to Philadelphia for Paul George, and Colin McCarthy at Boston.com asked whether Brown took a jab at Jayson Tatum in a recent interview. Boston's record has the trade itself and nothing on Brown's state of mind; that remains the Boston.com writer's question, not a settled answer.

Is Devin Carter healthy again?

He was listed day-to-day for illness on October 17 and cleared that same day, with an estimated return date of October 20.

How much is Payton Pritchard's new contract worth?

Boston and Pritchard agreed to a two-year extension on October 13, but no financial terms have been reported by any outlet.
