The Clippers open 2026-27 with a $188.9M payroll, above the $165.0M salary cap and below the $200.4M tax line. That is a comfortable spot on paper, but the club has almost no draft capital to trade, and Brandon Ingram's player option will shape next summer.

The payroll sits between the cap and the tax.
At $188.9M, the Clippers have no cap space. They do stay clear of the $200.4M tax line, the $209.0M first apron and the $221.7M second apron. Darius Garland at $42.2M and Brandon Ingram at $40.0M anchor the books, followed by Max Strus at $16.7M, Rui Hachimura at $14.0M and Derrick Jones Jr. at $10.5M. Two of those five salaries, Ingram's and Strus's, start the season sidelined, as does Bradley Beal at $6.4M. All three have an estimated return of November 8.
The options, not the expiring deals, will decide next summer.
Ingram holds a $41.9M player option for 2027-28 and Beal holds one worth $6.7M. The club controls a $14.0M team option on Hachimura, who shot 44.3 percent from three last season. Garland's salary rises to $44.9M. Strus, Jones, Gradey Dick, Kris Dunn, Nicolas Batum and Johni Broome have no 2027-28 figure on the sheet, and Brook Lopez's $9.2M this season carries a team option. Ingram's choice is the hinge. He averaged 21.5 points over 77 games last season, but he opens this one recovering from a partially torn Achilles, with on-court work resumed and no date set for his debut.
The draft cupboard offers almost nothing to trade.
The 2029 and 2030 first-round picks are forfeited outright, part of the penalties in the Kawhi Leonard salary-cap-circumvention case. The 2027 and 2028 firsts are swaps, the 2027 second goes to Utah and the 2029 second goes to San Antonio. Any trade to consolidate talent has to be built from salaries and young players rather than picks. That puts weight on Keaton Wagler, a 19-year-old rookie earning $9.7M, and on Dick at $7.1M.
Real flexibility exists only at the margins.
Staying under the tax spares the Clippers a bill and keeps the aprons distant. Still, the interim front office, with Trent Redden running basketball operations, has neither picks nor cap room to buy a fix if the injuries linger. Jordan Miller's shoulder carries an estimated return of March 2, 2027. This is a team that went 42-40 last season with a plus-1.1 net mark, and it is building its case on health rather than on a deal.
Are the Clippers over the luxury tax in 2026-27?
No. Their $188.9M payroll is above the $165.0M salary cap but below the $200.4M luxury tax line.
Do the Clippers own their future first-round picks?
Only in part. Their 2027 and 2028 firsts are swaps, and their 2029 and 2030 firsts were forfeited in the Kawhi Leonard salary-cap-circumvention case.
