Garland Carries the First Night as Sacramento Arrives Short-Handed

No new injuries or moves overnight; the Kings come in tonight without Simmons, Raynaud and Cardwell.

By the Clippers Nightly Desk · Wednesday, October 21

The Clippers open 2026-27 tonight against Sacramento with five players sidelined and no change to the injury list since October 16. Darius Garland and the healthy veterans face a Kings team that went 22-60 last season and is missing its own regulars.

The quiet stretch is the news.

Nothing moved in the last 36 hours: no injury change, no signing, no cut. The last round of roster churn came October 18, when Blake Wesley, Miye Oni, Nathan Mensah and Jahmyl Telfort left. Cam Christie had come back the day before under a two-way contract. Lue gets a settled 18-man group, and Kris Dunn and Kobe Sanders were both cleared October 17.

Sacramento brings its own injury list.

The Kings visit tonight, October 21. Ben Simmons (Achilles), Maxime Raynaud (right knee) and Dylan Cardwell (left calf) are ruled out, and Malik Monk is uncertain with a left ankle issue. Raynaud is the costly absence: he played 74 games last season at 12.5 points and 7.5 rebounds, the most durable piece Doug Christie had. Sacramento allowed a 120.3 defensive rating last season. The Clippers have had six days of rest. After that the schedule stiffens, with games at the Lakers October 23 and at the Thunder October 25.

Garland's workload is the figure to watch.

With Ingram's 21.5 points a night unavailable until at least an estimated November 8, the offense runs through Darius Garland. He averaged 18.8 points and 6.7 assists last season but appeared in only 45 games. His $42.2M salary is the largest on the payroll, and that contract assumes he is available. Rui Hachimura's 44.3 percent three-point shooting is the most dependable secondary option.

The open question is who absorbs Ingram's minutes.

Ingram logged 33.8 minutes a night last season. Clipperholics argued that his injury could open up a bigger role for 19-year-old rookie Keaton Wagler, and tonight's rotation will show whether Lue agrees. In the middle, Brook Lopez, 38, and Isaiah Jackson cover for Konan Niederhauser.

When will Brandon Ingram return for the Clippers?

Ingram's Achilles keeps him out, and his estimated return date is November 8. He began working on the court again October 15.

Which Kings players are injured for the game against the Clippers?

Ben Simmons, Maxime Raynaud and Dylan Cardwell are out. Malik Monk is uncertain with a left ankle issue.
