Rumor Check: No Trade Winds, Just a Crowded Cap Sheet

The week's reports are options, a DUI charge and a surgery claim, not trade whispers — and the payroll explains why.

This week's Suns reports are housekeeping, not trade rumblings: options exercised, a camp deal signed, a legal matter still open. The roster's $216.2 million payroll sits above the first apron and the $200.4 million tax threshold, leaving little room for a bigger move.

Gregory's offseason remarks. Hoopsrumors flagged general manager Brian Gregory's October 3 comments on Jordan Ott, Devin Booker, Miles Bridges and Jalen Green, carrying a confidence score of 44 and marked open. It reads as Gregory describing the plan already in place, not teasing a new one.

Options locked, not leaked. The October 1 report on Ryan Dunn and Khaman Maluach's 2027-28 options carried only a 42 confidence score, but Phoenix's own statement that same day confirmed it outright: both are now under contract through 2027-28.

Brooks' legal question. Dillon Brooks faces a misdemeanor DUI charge, per a September 30 report carrying a confidence score of 41, still open. No update on the charge's status has followed, and Brooks has stayed on the active roster through camp.

Reath's deal, done. Duop Reath's signing, reported by Paul Garcia on September 26, is marked confirmed — settled roster news, not speculation. He joined the Suns that week and has yet to play a game for Phoenix.

Camp names, not locks. Camp-deal reports for David Stockton on September 18 and the Jordan Schakel sign-and-waive on September 17 are both confirmed, but describe non-guaranteed depth moves, not additions to the regular rotation.

Why the cap stays quiet. Phoenix's payroll sits at $216.2 million, above the first apron and above the $200.4 million tax threshold, with Devin Booker's $57.1 million deal the anchor. That ceiling is the real reason no meaningful trade rumor has surfaced around this roster.

Williams' surgery report. Shams Charania's September 11 report on Mark Williams' shoulder surgery carries this set's highest confidence score, 55, and is still marked open. No return timeline has followed it, and Williams remains out.

On deck Preseason continues October 5 at the Pistons, then October 7 at the Bulls, before home preseason games against the Spurs on October 10 and 14.
Are the Suns shopping Jalen Green or Miles Bridges in a trade?

No trade report has surfaced this week; the only related item was general manager Brian Gregory discussing the existing roster plan around Green and Bridges.

Is Mark Williams expected back for the regular-season opener?

No return date has been given since his September 11 shoulder surgery report, and he remains out heading into the October 21 opener at the Trail Blazers.
