The Beat Put a Number on Podziemski, Not on Porzingis

The beat finally attached a price to Podziemski's extension and real praise to Lendeborg's week, but the hardest question on this roster — who plays center behind Porzingis — still has no good answer.

By the Warriors Nightly Desk · Sunday, October 11

ESPN's Anthony Slater and five other outlets confirmed the price on Brandin Podziemski's new contract: $110 million over five years, finally giving the extension a number. Yaxel Lendeborg backed up the hype with 23 points and 10 rebounds in the win over Sacramento, while Kristaps Porzingis' uncertain timeline keeps center thin behind Al Horford.

A Price Tag Lands on Podziemski's Deal

ESPN's Anthony Slater reported the terms: five years, $110 million, confirmed by The Athletic, Hoops Rumors, SFGATE and RealGM. NBC Sports Bay Area's Dalton Johnson framed it against Ayo Dosunmu's recent deal, five years and $112 million, calling it the same market rate for a comparable player. That number lands on a payroll already at $223.3 million, above the $200.4 million tax threshold and the second apron, with Curry at $62.6 million and Butler at $56.8 million still the two anchors. Podziemski's new money is future business, but it is no longer a mystery.

Lendeborg Is Letting the Box Score Do the Talking

Warriors.com called his assertiveness the standout of the win over Sacramento, and Dalton Johnson put him at the center of his postgame takeaways. The stat line backs both: 23 points, 10 rebounds, six assists on 10-for-14 shooting, a plus-18 that topped every starter. He is a rookie forcing his way into real minutes, not a name added to a notes column for volume.

Nobody at the Beat Can Answer the Center Question

NBC Sports Bay Area's Monte Poole spent a column evaluating backup center options with Porzingis' status still unclear, and that is not speculation dressed up as news. Porzingis has been out indefinitely since September 28 on an undisclosed issue, with no further detail since. Behind him sits Al Horford, 40 years old and in his nineteenth season, and rookie two-way big Graham Ike. The question is real because the depth chart is thin, not because the beat needed a storyline.

Curry Said the Quiet Part Out Loud

RealGM reported Curry acknowledging the franchise's roster-building troubles since the 2022 title, a rare on-record admission from the team's best player. It tracks: the picks still owed are a 2029 second to Brooklyn and a 2030 first protected to Memphis, and the books are already full. Curry is not wrong to flag it.

How much is Brandin Podziemski's new contract worth?

Five years and $110 million, according to ESPN's Anthony Slater, with no year-by-year breakdown reported yet.

Who plays center while Kristaps Porzingis is out?

Al Horford is the primary option, with rookie two-way big Graham Ike behind him; Porzingis has had no return timetable since going out September 28.
