Milwaukee fell to Charlotte 105-90 in the finale of a three-game preseason week, undone by a run spanning the second and third quarters that pushed the Hornets' lead to 24. Tyler Herro led the Bucks and was the only regular to finish on the plus side as reserves closed it out.

First quarter

Milwaukee came out sharp, scoring the first 8 points of an 8-0 run to grab an early edge, but Charlotte answered with its own 8-0 burst. The lead changed hands three times and the score was tied twice before the Hornets began to pull away in the second quarter.

Second quarter into third

Charlotte broke the game open with a 13-0 run that stretched from the closing minutes of the second quarter into the third, turning a close game into control. The Hornets' lead swelled to as many as 24 points, by far the widest margin of the night, with Brandon Miller and Naz Reid doing the damage.

Fourth quarter

With the outcome decided, Milwaukee closed the final five minutes with AJ Green, Caris LeVert, Pete Nance, Kam Jones and Kel'el Ware on the floor. Herro still led all Bucks scorers in the period with 5 points, with Myles Turner and Kyle Kuzma adding 2 apiece, as the final settled at 105-90.

By the numbers

Herro grades out a B-plus: 18 points on 6-of-13 shooting with three 3-pointers, and the only regular to finish in the plus column, at plus-1 in 23 minutes. Ware earns a D: minus-18 in 21 minutes, just 7 points on 3-of-8 shooting, the worst mark on the roster. Jaquez is a B: 9 points, 7 rebounds and 4 assists on 3-of-6 shooting, his cleanest line of the trip.

What it changes

The loss drops Milwaukee to 1-2 in preseason play, closing out a stretch of two games in seven days and two straight games on the road, in Oklahoma City and then Charlotte. There is no playoff race to track in October, and nothing about this game changes the opener at Washington on October 21 — it was simply the last extended look before the Bucks get three days off.

Next Milwaukee returns home to face the Bulls on October 14, the second-to-last preseason tune-up before closing it out at Indiana on October 16 and opening the regular season at Washington on October 21.
