Rumor Check: One Trade Report Outranks the Rest

Eight rumors have crossed the desk since mid-September; only Friday's report clears even odds.

Milwaukee has logged eight rumor reports since mid-September, ranging from routine transactions to unproven trade chatter. Only one, Jake Fischer's October 15 note on trade talks involving the Bucks, Lakers and Grizzlies, carries a confidence score above 50.

Mid-September

Two reports surfaced before camp opened. Hoops Rumors logged the signing of center Jake Stephens on September 17 at a confidence score of 20, and six days later, on September 23, Joe Vardon reported the NBA was probing the Bucks' trade for Gary Trent Jr., rated 25. Both are still marked open, with no follow-up since.

October 6

Hoops Rumors logged the Bucks' signing of center Johni Broome at a confidence score of just 34, even though Broome already appears on the active roster. A low number attached to a move the team has already made says more about the report's rating than about whether the move happened.

October 11

A separate note, marked confirmed rather than rated, said seven NBA teams still had two-way contract openings heading into the season. It did not name Milwaukee, and nothing in the report ties it to the Bucks' own roster spots.

Friday, October 15

The heaviest report of the stretch came from Jake Fischer: Milwaukee, the Lakers and the Grizzlies are exploring trades, rated 75, the highest confidence score logged this fall. Fischer named no players. The Bucks carry $191.4 million in payroll, above the $165.0 million cap but under the $200.4 million tax line, leaving room to take on money. Still, no names means no shape to judge yet.

Next Milwaukee's next game is Friday, October 16, at Indiana, with the regular-season opener set for October 21 at Washington.
What is the Bucks' most credible trade rumor right now?

Jake Fischer's October 15 report that Milwaukee, the Lakers and the Grizzlies are exploring trades carries a confidence score of 75, the highest of any report logged this fall, though no players have been named.

Is the NBA's investigation into the Gary Trent Jr. trade still open?

Yes. Joe Vardon's September 23 report on the league's probe into that deal is still marked open, rated at a confidence score of 25, with no reported update since.
