Bulls Notebook: Two New Names on the Camp Roster

Two Additions. Peter Suder and Houston Mallette joined the roster September 22. A day later, Hoops Rumors writer Tony Garcia grouped the Bulls with the Pistons and Spurs in a report on teams adding camp bodies, without spelling out what either newcomer's path onto the regular season roster looks like.

Four Out, Same Date. Josh Giddey (right ankle), Rob Dillingham (right wrist), Zach Collins (right toe) and Dailyn Swain (wrist) are each nursing an injury, and each has an early-October target to be back. That's four regulars affected before camp has opened.

Dillingham's Bump. Over his final three games last season, Rob Dillingham played 13 more minutes a game than his season average, stepping up whenever a teammate was out. With four Bulls nursing injuries now, that kind of jump could matter again once camp opens.

Williams Saw It Too. Patrick Williams saw the same jump last season: over his final three games, he averaged 34 minutes a game, 14 more than his season mark, whenever a teammate was out. Camp will test whether that role holds with Nic Claxton and Norman Powell now in the frontcourt mix.

Miller's Climb. Leonard Miller logged 28.8 minutes a game over his final 10 games last season, 13.1 more than his season average. He isn't one of the four currently sidelined, but that late-season workload points to where extra minutes could go if the frontcourt thins again.

Room Under the Cap. Chicago's payroll stands at $161.5 million, comfortably below the $200.4 million tax threshold. Josh Giddey ($25.0M), Nic Claxton ($23.1M), Norman Powell ($21.5M) and Patrick Williams ($18.0M) are the four biggest deals on the books, and the Bulls control their own picks through 2030 outside a 2027 second owed to Oklahoma City.

What's Missing. The report tying Suder and Mallette to camp didn't say whether either is on a standard deal, an Exhibit 10, or a two-way look. That detail decides whether either name matters past September, and it hasn't surfaced yet.
