Redick's Injury Report Leaves Kessler and Sexton Still Waiting

JJ Redick stood at the podium again Saturday with the update reporters have heard all week: Walker Kessler and Collin Sexton still haven't taken the floor this preseason. The Lakers have three games played, two wins, and a trimmed roster, but their starting center and a reserve guard remain absent from every box score.

No Timeline Yet

Redick repeated the update to Silver Screen and Roll's Jacob Rude on Saturday, a day after the Los Angeles Times flagged the same gap: Kessler, dealing with a finger issue, and Sexton, dealing with a lower-leg issue, have missed all three preseason games. Both were added to the injury list Oct. 5, each carrying a return target of Oct. 13 — the date of Monday's game against the Warriors.

Roster Still Moving

The roster kept moving around them. On Oct. 9, Dave McMenamin reported the Lakers signed Rafael Castro and waived William Kyle III, who had joined the team Sept. 28 and lasted eleven days. Arthur Kaluma, Ziaire Williams, Dalton Knecht and Cameron Carr round out a six-man list that now outnumbers the two preseason games left before Monday's rematch with Golden State.

Minutes Already Shifting

Rui Hachimura's minutes have jumped nearly nine a game over his last ten outings, to 38.6 a night, while Luke Kennard is up almost ten minutes, to 32.6 — early signs of how Redick redistributes time with regulars out. Whether that holds once Kessler and Sexton return is the question hanging over the stretch run to the Oct. 21 opener against the Warriors.

Have Walker Kessler and Collin Sexton played in the preseason yet?

No. Both have missed all three preseason games, with Kessler dealing with a finger issue and Sexton a lower-leg issue.

Who did the Lakers sign and waive this week?

On Oct. 9 the Lakers signed Rafael Castro and waived William Kyle III, who had joined the roster less than two weeks earlier.
