Forward CJ Huntley is off the Phoenix Suns roster as of Monday, Oct. 19, after a report that the club waived him. The Suns remain over the first apron with 17 players on the roster.
The move
CJ Huntley, a 24-year-old forward, left the Phoenix Suns roster on Monday, Oct. 19, according to the official roster. He is now off the roster. Earlier that day, John Gambadoro reported that Huntley was waived by the Suns. That report carried 50% confidence. The roster move is the confirmation of it. Huntley has one season of experience. Where he plays next is not announced.
The money
Huntley's contract is not on file yet. Public salary data can lag a move by a day, so his cap hit and years are not available. The Suns' payroll stands at $216.2M across 18 contracts for 2026-27. That is over the first apron of $209.0M and below the second apron of $221.7M. The salary cap is $165.0M and the tax line is $200.4M, so Phoenix is also over the tax. How Huntley's departure changes those figures is not announced.
The fit
Huntley played 4 games last season, averaging 10.1 minutes, 3.0 points, 1.3 rebounds and 0.5 assists. He was not part of the main rotation. Phoenix's top eight last season were led by Devin Booker at 33.5 minutes and 26.1 points, followed by Dillon Brooks, Grayson Allen, Collin Gillespie, Royce O'Neale, Jalen Green, Mark Williams and Jordan Goodwin. The Suns now list 17 players on the roster, against a standard limit of 15 plus 3 two-way.
