Rumor Check: Cap Math Overrules the Chatter

Open reports on Gregory, options and Brooks meet a payroll already past the apron.

Phoenix's recent rumor sheet runs light: a GM Q&A, a pair of exercised options and an unresolved DUI charge all sit at confidence scores in the 30s, still open. None of it moves against a payroll of $216.2 million, already above the first apron.

Gregory's comments. General manager Brian Gregory discussed Jordan Ott, Devin Booker, Miles Bridges and Jalen Green on October 3, per Hoops Rumors, logged at confidence 36 and still open. It reads as a status update on the rebuild, not a signal of a pending move.

Options picked up. On October 1, Hoops Rumors reported Phoenix exercised its rookie-scale options, Khaman Maluach's and Ryan Dunn's, at confidence 34, open. Procedural as these calls are, locking in cheap years on both matters more for the books than for any roster shake-up.

Brooks charge lingers. The misdemeanor DUI charge against Dillon Brooks, reported September 30 at confidence 32, remains open, with no resolution on record. He played and scored in both preseason outings since, the Spurs win included, while the case sits unresolved.

Reath's paper trail. Duop Reath shows how a report matures: a September 17 note on him signing with Phoenix sat at confidence 20, open, before Hoops Rumors confirmed the deal on September 26. Most entries on this sheet never cross that line.

Camp deals closed. Jules Bernard and David Stockton signed camp deals on September 18, and Jordan Schakel was signed and waived on September 17, both confirmed. No speculation left there, just roster filler already settled before camp broke.

Len goes overseas. Alex Len signed a two-year deal with Baskonia on September 14, confidence 20, open. It closes the door on any domestic center speculation involving him, Phoenix included.

Why the cap says no. None of this reaches the real obstacle: payroll sits at $216.2 million, above the first apron, with the luxury tax line at $200.4 million. Booker's $57.1 million, Green's $36.3 million and Bridges' $22.8 million leave little practical room to add, whatever the next report claims.

On deck Phoenix hosts the Spurs again on October 14, then the Jazz on October 16, before the regular-season opener October 21 at Portland; any further Brooks or roster news figures to surface before then.
Is Dillon Brooks' DUI charge resolved?

No. The misdemeanor charge reported September 30 remains open, with no resolution on record as of October 11.

Have the Suns made any trades recently?

No trade rumors appear on the current sheet. The confirmed moves are depth signings like Duop Reath, plus the rookie-scale options exercised on Khaman Maluach and Ryan Dunn.
