A Guard the Warriors Cut Is Reportedly Coming Back

Obi Agbim's reported return and Alex Toohey's injury clock say more about Golden State's unsettled depth than anything likely to happen Sunday in Los Angeles.

By the Warriors Nightly Desk · Saturday, October 3

A rumor-tracking site raised its confidence from 44 to 85 on October 2 that Obi Agbim, waived by the Warriors on September 22, will sign a new training camp deal. The timing lands two days before Golden State's preseason trip to the Clippers, a game that already arrives without two rotation regulars.

A Cut That Didn't Stick

Golden State waived Obi Agbim on September 22. Ten days later, on October 2, the outlet that tracked his departure moved its confidence he signs a new training camp deal from 44 to 85. Nothing is finalized, but the swing is the clearest sign yet that his camp exit wasn't the last word on him.

Toohey's Return Lines Up With Kickoff

Alex Toohey is day-to-day with a left knee issue, with an estimated return of October 4, the same date as the Clippers game. Moses Moody remains out with a left knee injury and isn't expected back until December 1. Jimmy Butler III's right knee keeps him out too, with a return targeted for January 2. Both absences push minutes toward the back of the roster, which is exactly where a returning Agbim would land.

Los Angeles Isn't Full Strength Either

Brandon Ingram, who averaged 21.5 points for the Clippers last season, is out with an Achilles injury. Bradley Beal is day-to-day with a knee issue. Darius Garland, who scored 18.8 points a game across 45 games last season, is the clearest first option left on a Los Angeles team that finished 42-40 with a net rating of 1.1.

What Sunday Actually Tests

With this many regulars unavailable on both sides, the game in Los Angeles won't settle a rotation question so much as hand out minutes to players fighting for a roster spot. For Golden State, that means watching who runs point guard behind Stephen Curry while the front office decides whether Agbim's return becomes official.

Is Obi Agbim back with the Warriors?

Not officially. Golden State waived him on September 22, but a rumor tracker raised its confidence to 85, up from 44, on October 2 that he'll sign a new training camp deal.

Who is out for the Warriors-Clippers preseason game on October 4?

Jimmy Butler III (right knee) and Moses Moody (left knee) are out for Golden State. Brandon Ingram (Achilles) is out and Bradley Beal (knee) is day-to-day for the Clippers.
