Stevens takes a camp spot. Isaiah Stevens signed with Chicago on Oct. 2, filling one of two camp spots emptied a day earlier when Peter Suder and Marquel Sutton were both released. He's a 25-year-old guard entering his second NBA season.

Two out in one day. Suder and Sutton left the roster together on Oct. 1, the latest reminder that camp invites aren't guarantees. Hoops Rumors logged both exits the same day it reported the Stevens signing, part of churn that's run since late September.

Four preseason games left. Chicago opens its exhibition slate Oct. 7 against the Suns, then plays the Grizzlies on NBA TV Oct. 9, the Nuggets on ESPN Oct. 11, and the Bucks on Oct. 14. The regular season opener is Oct. 21 at Toronto.

Collins eyeing the opener. Zach Collins is working through a right toe issue with an estimated return of Oct. 7, which lines up with the preseason opener against Phoenix. If that timeline holds, he's back before the games start to matter.

The number that matters. Chicago's payroll is $161.5M against a $165.0 million cap, with Josh Giddey's $25.0M deal the largest, followed by Nic Claxton at $23.1M and Norman Powell at $21.5M; the tax line sits $200.4M further out.

What's still unsettled. Fourteen men are under contract, with Caleb Wilson and Dailyn Swain still finding their fit as rookies, and the churn hasn't stopped. Whether Stevens survives the next round of preseason cuts is the open question.
