Shopping Porzingis Makes Sense. Selling Him Right Now Doesn't.

Hoops Rumors' report that Golden State is shopping Kristaps Porzingis fits the roster's logic, but a player with an undisclosed illness and a $19.5 million salary is not a trade anyone can price yet.

Hoops Rumors reported Wednesday that the Warriors are exploring trade avenues for Porzingis, a report carrying a confidence score of 45 and still open. Most of the week's other chatter has already been settled or carries less weight than the noise around it suggests.

How credible is the Porzingis report?

Hoops Rumors posted it October 21 with a confidence score of 45 and no insider named. The logic holds up. Porzingis has been out indefinitely since September 28, was formally listed Out on October 16 with the cause undisclosed, and now carries an illness designation with no projected return before December 1. Last season he gave Golden State 32 games, 16.7 points in 24.0 minutes and 33.8 percent shooting from three. Exploring trades is not the same as making one, and this report describes interest, not a deal.

Do the books even allow it?

His $19.5 million is the fourth-biggest contract on a $219.8 million payroll that is above the first apron and over the $200.4 million tax line, a spot that limits what the front office can do in trades. The Warriors control their own firsts in 2027, 2028 and 2029, so there are sweeteners. The harder sell is the player himself. Any buyer would be taking on that salary for a big man with no public diagnosis, and so far the Warriors have not offered one.

Which reports are already settled?

Two of them settled themselves. The Dalen Terry waiver report was confirmed, and Terry left October 18, the same day Tyler Burton did, which makes Burton's Exhibit 10 signing moot. Kerr calling Curry fine after the practice scare looks right, since Dalton Johnson reported him probable for the opener. Podziemski's five-year extension is real, but its terms still have not been reported. RealGM reported that Green intends to keep playing beyond this season even if it isn't in Golden State. That is a veteran's plan, not a trade.

Why the timing matters more than the rumor

Dalton Johnson counted the Warriors as down essentially four starters for the opener: Podziemski, Butler, Moody and Porzingis. A trade would not change tonight, and it would not change the stretch of games before Moody and Porzingis are projected back. What the report really measures is how long Golden State will keep waiting on an absence it hasn't explained. Until there is a diagnosis, Porzingis is a contract nobody can value, including the team that pays him.

Are the Warriors trading Kristaps Porzingis?

No trade has happened. Hoops Rumors reported on October 21 that the Warriors are exploring trade options for him, and that report is still unconfirmed.

When will Porzingis return for the Warriors?

He is listed Out with an illness, and his projected return is December 1. The team has not disclosed what the issue is.
