Jaden McDaniels remains day-to-day with the Timberwolves after sitting out Friday's preseason game against the Bulls to rest. His next chance to play is Wednesday's game at the Heat, with no return timetable announced.
What happened
Jaden McDaniels is listed as day-to-day on the Timberwolves' injury report, issued Saturday, Oct. 17 at 1:04 p.m. ET. The designation is unchanged from his previous report. McDaniels sat out Friday's preseason game against the Bulls to rest, according to Alan Horton of the Timberwolves Radio Network. No further detail was given, and the team has not announced an expected return date.
What it means for the Timberwolves
Minnesota's next game is Wednesday, Oct. 21 at the Heat, tipping off at 7:30 p.m. ET on ESPN. Last season, McDaniels averaged 14.8 points, 4.2 rebounds and 2.7 assists in 31.7 minutes across 73 games, and his absence removes a starting wing from the lineup. In games he has missed, Anthony Edwards (35.0 minutes, 28.8 points), Julius Randle (33.0 minutes, 21.1 points), Rudy Gobert (31.3 minutes, 10.9 points), Donte DiVincenzo (30.4 minutes, 12.2 points), Ayo Dosunmu (28.9 minutes, 14.4 points) and Naz Reid (26.1 minutes, 13.6 points) have absorbed extra minutes. The Timberwolves have not played a regular-season game yet, so there is no record with or without him to compare.
What to watch
The Timberwolves have not announced when McDaniels will return, and his next official report is expected before Wednesday's game at the Heat. He has cycled on and off the day-to-day list this preseason, including stretches around Oct. 10 and Oct. 12, before being cleared and then re-listed with rest ahead of Friday's game against the Bulls. Minnesota opens the week looking for an update on his status.
