The Newest Voice in Warriors Camp Isn't a Player

Camp has gone quiet on the injury and contract fronts, so the week's real addition to Golden State is a voice on the bench, not a body on the roster.

Frank Vogel, added to Steve Kerr's staff, said what drew him to Golden State this week, while the actual roster settled after a week of arrivals and departures. Camp opens with four preseason dates set, starting Oct. 4 at the Clippers, before the real season begins Oct. 21 at the Lakers.

A quiet 36 hours, a full slate ahead

Nothing new broke through this cycle. What matters instead are the dates: Golden State opens the preseason Oct. 4 on the road against the Clippers, comes home to face the Lakers Oct. 6, plays at Portland Oct. 7, then hosts Sacramento Oct. 10. The regular season begins Oct. 21 at the Lakers, on ESPN.

What Vogel says he saw

Two notes items, from HoopsRumors on Sept. 18 and Monte Poole on Sept. 19, named Frank Vogel without saying why. He filled in the gap himself this week, explaining that any team built around Curry and Green was worth joining. That's a staff hire settling into the picture, not a roster move, but it's the clearest new information of the week.

The roster after the churn

Deivon Smith, Chance McMillian and Jacksen Moni all joined and left within days. Nick Boyd, Elias Ralph and Obi Agbim stuck, and Graham Ike signed a two-way deal Sept. 21. That's the group Kerr takes into camp.

The number that will shape it

Moses Moody and Jimmy Butler III are both projected to miss the opening weeks, each out with a knee issue and targeting a Dec. 1 return. Camp will have to answer how Kerr's rotation works before either is back.
